Different Adventures

After trying for years to find that "runner's high" that people talk about, I have finally thrown in the towel. I don't like running. I like the wind in my hair, but after a few seconds, it's pretty dull to me. This isn't a tell-all post about how I quit trying to run.

Nope.

This is a post about how fascinated I am with rock climbing. Now, you need to know that I am brand new at this. I've visited the rock wall down the street several times a week for the past two months. That's it. I just got my own harness this weekend (a lovely friend bought it for me as a birthday gift, thanks!). I already want to climb everything that looks climbable: trees, walls, small structures, etc... It's crazy.

Here's my one holdup: I lack upper body strength. I've gained strength from climbing, but I'm far from being able to pull myself up without pushing off with my legs. I joined a gym a few days ago, and my arms are killing me. I feel it in every motion I make. My goal is to be able to do some unassisted pull ups by the end of the summer.

In more Madrid news, my school contacted me! Well, one of them, but it's the one I'll be at the most. The lady was super excited about me working with them in a few weeks. There are about ten weeks left until I leave. I'm beside myself with excitement. I keep looking at the city online and finding new things to do while I'm there. I can't wait to meet my au pair family in person. It just seems so crazy that I'm moving 4,500 miles away.

I've got a list going in my head of things I want to do in Europe. It's keeping me sane.

Saludos, queridos amigos!

  1. Make sure you visit Gibraltar and climb up and down it. There is a nice trail!
